Silenzo Nakamoto
Bio
Silenzo, a teenage rockstar from Vietnam, with half Italian half Japanese parents, is tired of being famous and constantly going on tours to play his signature modern Metal music. At the age of 18, Silenzo decides to try his hand at creating generative music using AI and ML. In order to achieve his grand goal, he finds himself joining Monash as an IT student. He is planning on working hard to acquire some new skills that he can use, along with his expertise in musical instruments, to take generative music to the next level.
Interests
Silenzo started playing guitar from a young age. He enjoys a wide range of musical genres including, but not limited to, Metal, Rock, and Indie and has mastered several instruments over the years such as Guitar and Piano. Along with his musical interests, he also finds himself enjoying a fair share of Basketball, Photography, Bar-Hopping and board games. He recently started working/playing with data as well to help stop the spread of misinformation on social media channels during the pandemic. On top of all that, Silenzo is also interested in Computer Science, and more specifically Web Design. So every day, he sets aside some time to work on a short-course from Colt Steele that he purchased on Udemy. He wishes to build a single website having an exceptional design interface in order to easily embed the sophisticated software algorithms and create a portal with the perfect appearance for his audience, capable of being blended into people’s everyday lives. Silenzo knows this is a big challenge to tackle, so he decides to join as many Monash clubs as possible in order to meet people and build a team of professionals willing to join forces with him and embark on a journey of the unknown. A few of the clubs he has in mind are when it comes to IT are MAC, CCA, MONSEC and WIRED. He’s also not only thinking of joining the music student’s society, where he is hoping to make some long-lasting connections with local artists, but also a few of the business/commerce clubs, in order to widen his networking circle and meet people from across different industries. Some of the business clubs he heard about from his FIT whatsapp mentors are FMAA & BCSS - they mentioned that FMAA hosts a national management consulting competition once a year and he’s really excited to ROCK that one out!
Worries & Solutions
When not rocking his guitar out in some of Vietnam’s most beautiful clubs and stages, Silenzo is either having a drink or 5 with his childhood mates or going on long mindful walks, by himself, daydreaming and contemplating the beauty of nature. Ironically, he considers himself to be more of an introverted person, and would rather stay in his comfort zone over having to adapt to new environments. For this exact reason, however, one of the main worries that is keeping Silenzo from sleeping at night is how to overcome the issue of acculturation. He sees it as a big issue, not only for himself but also for other people that have experienced it or might experience it in the future.
The first thing he’s got in mind is to join the Vietnamese Students Association (VSA). He feels that it might be easier if he can meet people from his original country in order to feel more at home when studying at Monash. That made Silenzo wonder if it is easy to meet Monash Vietnamese students before commencing university, during Monash O-week festival or even weeks and months earlier. Being the tech-savvy person that he is, Silenzo jumps on the Monash Clubs webpage, finds the link to VSA’s facebook page and, just like that, he had already made a handful of connections, along with a few new friends.
Silenzo is already looking forward to attending all the introductions to Aussie culture events that will be running during o-week in order to get himself accustomed first, but that couldn’t stop him from thinking about all of his other Vietnamese and foreigner mates that might be, or are already, experiencing acculturative stress. He is thinking whether enabling parents to understand the Australian culture would help out students become more easily acculturated. In order to find out, he decides to complete some of the Leap into Leadership Online (or LiLO for short) modules offered by Monash Career on Moodle. When he was told by a friend about it, a few of the modules that stood out for him and ignited his curiosity are the Foundation of Leadership, Committee 101, Communicate with Impact and Connecting across cultures. Silenzo is hoping to apply the skills learnt from the LiLO modules by starting a new society of multi-cultural students solely dedicated on introducing foreigners parents to the Aussie culture and on keeping them engaged with recent news and events happening on Australian campuses. If successful, his ultimate dream would be to use his passion for music in order to take this project even further.
After having further explored his worries, their root causes and the ways he is planning on alleviating them, Silenzo felt much more comfortable, and even excited, about joining Monash and contributing to the community.
